Micro Needle Therapy

Cosmetic acupuncture with a derma roller

A single use, rolling device containing more than 500 very fine, sharp titanium needles is rolled over the skin, following the administration of a topical local anaesthetic cream.

These tiny puncture wounds to the dermis, induce the release of growth factors that stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. This stimulation reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring. This treatment has also been used successfully in cases of Alopecia to indicate hair restoration.

Creating dermal damage without removal of the healthy epidermis, as with other resurfacing techniques, means that the healing time is rapid and does not cause any comparable pain. Results are quick and will last!

The treatment requires two to four sessions for optimum results, depending on the condition of the skin, with four to six week intervals which allows for maximum new collagen deposition.

The advantages of Derma roller for skin rejuvenation:

There is no skin damage (epidermis is left intact), no skin sensitivity to UV light and no risk of permanent skin discolouration.

  • Suitable for men and women with all skin types
  • Suitable for thin skin
  • Helps to smooth away wrinkles, lines, folds and crows feet
  • Improves the appearance of scars, especially indented acne scars
  • Improves the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks
  • Evens out pigmentation
  • Enhances absorption of serums and creams
  • Short healing time
  • Minimal or no down time (48 hours)
  • Minimal discomfort post-treatment
  • Cost effective alternative to laser, e.g. Fraxel
  • Painless (topical anaesthetic cream applied prior to treatment)
  • Minimal or no side effects

How does it work?

Skin needling with the Titanium derma roller results in the formation of thousands of miniscule pin-prick ‘wounds’ in the targeted skin tissue.

Each of these pin-prick ‘wounds’ is an onset of the normal healing process occurring in the broken skin and leads to new collagen being laid down in the upper dermal layer by the body’s own natural healing response.

A single micro-needle ‘injury’ would not trigger noticeable collagen formation but collectively the thousands of minute ‘injuries’ produce collagen layers on a scale similar to laser therapies.

Consecutive skin needling sessions produce new collagen progressively until intended scars and deep lines are filled.

Indications for micro-needle therapy with a derma roller:

  • Loss of skin firmness and elasticity
  • Wrinkling
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Diluted pores and comedones
  • Indented acne scars
  • Chicken pox scars
  • Old surgery scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Cellulite

In order to maximise the benefit of the treatment, hyaluronic serums and moisturisers will be applied. The serum will be absorbed into the skin in the rolled areas and will aid the skin’s rejuvenation process.

I will always finish the treatment with a gentle facial massage to sooth the skin and to compliment the derma roller treatment for invigoration of the area. A jade roller (roller made with a jade stone) may also be used for the benefit of its capacity to ‘cool down’ the treated skin.

Inadequate sun protection during the healing period may result in hyperpigmentation which normally resolves after one month. If any scarring occurs, the patient may need to revise the procedure.

Any contraindications will be discussed in detail when your full medical history is known.

The treatment will not be applied for the following conditions: Pregnancy, haemophilia, active acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, actinic (solar) keratosis, active skin infections (bacterial, viral, fungal or Herpetic), facial fillers or Botox injections in the past 4 months, raised moles or warts.

Aftercare recommendations:

Immediately after the procedure, the post treatment skin care will be applied.

The topical layer of post treatment cream and serum must be kept on overnight and then washed off the next morning with warm water only. No makeup should be applied in this period.

The use of cleansers or topical products should be avoided for at least 24hrs after the treatment.

I am a fully trained, qualified cosmetic micro-needle therapist and trained with Paul Adkins, a recognised, expert practitioner and world authority in facial revitalisation acupuncture and micro-needling therapy. He has trained acupuncturists in over 30 countries to perform this natural anti-aging treatment.

Depending on the initial skin condition and the anticipated procedure result, skin needling procedures can be repeated without limit every 4-6 weeks.

A course of 3 derma roller sessions is usually sufficient.

4-6 week intervals allows for maximum new collagen deposition and assessment of a single treatment result, however, collagen formation can continue for up to 12 months after one treatment.

A discount of 10% is available if a block booking of 3 or more treatments is pre-paid in advance.
